Happy Monday,

This week we are excited to highlight a hometown hero- Tori Murden McClure, an amazing woman from Louisville, KY. She is known for becoming the first American to row across the Atlantic! More impressively, she completed this voyage on the American Pearl, a boat she built herself.

This heroic feat took two separate attempts and 81 consecutive days of rowing to finally accomplish. On her first attempt, she rowed about 3,000 miles but ended up getting hit by hurricane Danielle. In one day, her boat capsized eleven times and she thought she might not make it back- thankfully she did!

On Sept. 13, 1999, Murden McClure set out again and successfully crossed the Atlantic! Watch real video footage of Tori’s brave journey here.

Now, Tori is the president of Spalding University and is guiding students across their own journey. We are proud and honored to share our hometown with this amazingly strong woman!

There are opportunities that will come your way, have courage and chase them down.” -Tori Murden McClure

Up and Up!
