| Trying to balance positive news and negative news is something we’re all facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. How can we live as happily as possible during this crisis? While we can’t control the virus, let’s focus on what we can control and the positive responses we are seeing in our community and our country.
Take for example, the community of St. Raphael School. One of their students was celebrating his 8th birthday under the healthy at home condition. Not the way an 8-year old wants to celebrate a birthday. But something amazing happened. As he stood in his front yard, he was surprised with a birthday parade organized by his friends and teacher from St. Raphael. A parade of cars honking and displaying birthday signs and balloons drove by his house. And what about the yard art put out in front of Norton Brownsboro Hospital proclaiming that “Heroes Work Here.” Businesses and individuals are stepping up to sew masks or make personal protective equipment for our healthcare providers.
I’m also loving the display of flowers, hearts and love on everyone’s windows and doors. I’ve seen more of my neighbors out walking and front porch sitting over the past month than I’ve seen in the past 12 years. It’s a nostalgic feeling reminding me of what neighborhoods were like when I was growing up.
“Afternoons with Andy” has become part of our daily lives. Governor Beshear is a positive leader providing what people need during this crisis – compassion, stability, trust and hope.
We can’t stop the virus, but we can use the adversity as a catalyst for creativity and innovation. Share some of the happy things you’re doing or seeing with me. And remember, we will get through this together. #TeamKentucky #TogetherKY
