Rise & Shine!

I hope everyone had a wonderful, and safe 4th of July weekend! Did anyone see good fireworks? What about good food? That’s typically what America does on the Fourth of July to celebrate the country’s birthday, established with 56 founding fathers’ pen strokes on the Declaration of Independence in 1776. We make a toast or two to freedom and good old Uncle Sam.

Even though July 4, 2020 marked America’s 245th birthday, there’s still a lot to learn about this red, white and blue anniversary. For example, did you know John Hancock was the only one that signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776? All the others signed later. Or, that Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as the national bird but was overruled by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who recommended the bald eagle.

Whether you celebrated with fireworks, American flags or barbeques, Independence Day celebrations take on a greater importance of what being a free and democratic nation means. Let us never forget the sacrifices of our service men and women.

Up and up!
