March is Women’s History Month! The entire month is dedicated to celebrating women, their remarkable achievements and remembering the amazing contributions, notable and ordinary women have made to help shape the future.
The National Women’s History Alliance selects a yearly theme for this special month. Because 2020 marks the 100th anniversary, this year’s theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote,” honoring the brave women who fought and continue to fight for the voting rights of others.
Did You Know? Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week.
It all began in 1978 as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women planned a “Women’s History Week.” The movement quickly spread across the country and other communities soon adopted the celebration.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the Week of March 8th as National Women’s History Week. Finally, in 1987, Congress designated March as Women’s History Month.
Throughout March, in honor of Women’s History Month, our Rise and Shines will be dedicated to amazing women. From celebrities we admire to everyday women, we’re excited to share their stories with you!
I’ll leave you with this quote.
“Fill your life with women that empower you, that help you believe in your magic and aid them to believe in their own exceptional power and their incredible magic too. Women that believe in each other can survive anything.” —Nikita Gill
